Today is the 400th birthday for our very own Union Jack flag. Officially recognised on the 12th April 1606, although changed to include Northern Ireland on January 1st 1801, it’s been adorned on objects from tea towels to jumbo jets.
Happy Birthday!

It’s around about now when people my age will be thinking about employment - whether full-time, part-time, now or in the future. Now, also around this time I’m also thinking about what I want to be after I leave school. I don’t know about you but my employment aspirations have changed since I was 5 years old - I no longer want to be an astronaut (although given the chance I would glady step onto the moon’s sufrace for the ESA).
I’m one of those people who doesn’t know exactly what they want to do but have chosen a path through my GCSEs and A-Levels that will take me to a rough area where I think I want to be. I love computers and I believe I have more skills than some on computers. I love Physics and believe that I know more to do with Physics than some people my age. I am facinated with space and theories of such sort. But, I also like politics - this is shown by the fact I got to the finals of an ‘interview game’ which was hosted by the school headmaster and also an eccentric businessman. These are the general areas I want to work in when I’m older, hence my choices below:
- Applied ICT
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Economics
Now, you’re probably wondering why Economics is in the list. Well, I am as well. Because of the choices we had, I was limited to what I could do and the column that Economics was in wasn’t exactly fruitful in my eyes. I saw someone about this choice and left her office knowing I’d made the right choice (she wanted me to do Philosophy!).
So, where do I want to be in 10 years? Preferably still in England, although Canada would be nice ;). No, really, If I had a choice, I’d be working in a laboratory similar to the Rutherford Appleford Laboratory or at CERN. But, that proably won’t happen. I’d be happy with an office job programming software/websites or working with hardware.
Anyway, so. Do you know what you want to do when you leave school, University etc.? If you’re older than me did you know what you wanted to do? Do you want to go to into 6th Form? Do you want to go to University? I know I do. Why? Because I believe it will provde me with the best start on my career path. What’s your opinion?
P.S: Anyone want to offer me a job?

Finally, the Captain Cook of the Muslim world has been jailed for his crimes. Abu Hamza has been jailed for 7 years for inciting murder and stirring up race hate. Even though I personally don’t think this is enough, because he’ll only probably serve around 4 years of that sentence, it’s the least we could’ve hoped for. Should’ve left it to the American Justice system because he would’ve served even more than that, maybe death - though I doubt his death would help the matter much.
