(0) Opera on Nintendo DS

Comments RSS Feed Gaming, Internet, Misc., News

As Opera has been announced to provide the internet browsing capabilities for both the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii (formerly Nintendo Revolution), I was slightly less than optimistic because my experience with the Opera web browser has been less than comfortable. In an earlier blog post I mentioned this news and my opinion:

I thought this logical as Opera already have experience in mobile version. But Opera on the Wii? I would have preferred a Gecko browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or something based on the Firefox web browser. But, I suppose it doesn’t really matter.

An Opera fanatic, Jon, has managed to test Opera for the Nintendo DS on his blog and posted a review. From what he says in his review, I’m beginning to think that it may not be that bad to have Opera for web browsing on the DS and the Wii. Check out his blog and the review. If you have a Nintendo DS (bulky or lite) then when it arrives in good olde Europe, I reccomend you buy the cartridge.

If anyone does get it, let me know via a comment or e-mail.

(3) Opera on Wii

Opera has confirmed that their browser will be the browser that Nintendo Wii users will use to browse the internet. You can view the press release here and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata’s speech from the E3 media briefing here. Nintendo announced earlier in the year that the Nintendo DS would be getting the Opera browser. I thought this logical as Opera already have experience in mobile version. But Opera on the Wii? I would have preferred a Gecko browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or something based on the Firefox web browser. But, I suppose it doesn’t really matter.

I watched the Nintendo E3 media briefing live via GameTrailers.com and it was great. Although Nintendo have kept some details secret still, such as cost (rumoured to be between $250 - $350) and availability (probably after the Sony PS3 launch in November). But this is all good. If anyone else watched it, the tennis match at the end looked a lot of fun. I like the idea of actually moving yourself to move the character. I better start saving for that £199 pricetag!

(0) SPORE - E3 Footage

I did an earlier post with another video about this game and it looks even more amazing. You can see how much work has been put into it since the last video was made. You can watch it here, or view it below.

From the EA website:

SPORE – SPORE takes players on an epic journey from the origin and evolution of life through the development of civilisation and eventually into the outer reaches of space. Create a creature, then control every dimension of its evolution from pond scum to galactic god. Experience multiple styles of gameplay as your creature advances through different stages of development. Fight for survival in the wild, develop a sprawling metropolis, trade and war against rival civilisations and explore the outer reaches of the galaxy. Every aspect of the universe from creatures to vehicles, buildings to plants, are created by the player and automatically shared with other players, providing a limitless number of worlds to explore and play. Create, control and explore your universe with SPORE. SPORE is under development for the PC by legendary game designer, Will Wright.

(2) All About Wii - 1Up

1Up.com has posted a very detailed review about everything they know about Nintendo’s next games console - Wii. If you’re interested, read it - it’s a very interesting read. You can find it here.

One interesting thing is that it could cost as low as $150 (£85) to $200 (£115), though I doubt the lower end because the Nintendo DS costs around £85 at the moment. One thing that really gets on my nerves is the fact that it looks like Nintendo will only release it in Japan and North America in the Summer. I think that it would really help sales if they had a worldwide launch (like the Harry Potter books) and released their secrets all at once. Agree?
