If you’re a regular reader of the BBC News Website, you may have come across this article. The first paragraph, the statement it makes doesn’t make me believe the rest of the article:
More than half the British population does not fully accept the theory of evolution, according to a survey.
I’m sorry, but this cannot be true. Although, they do allow for a misconception with the use of the word ‘fully‘. I myself am an athiest, but I like to delve into religion once in a while, contemplating the relationship between Science and Religion – even if there is one at all. If the survey is correct, then over half the population of this country and this group of countries I call Great Britian must be blind. The evidence is there to support the theory of evolution, but there’s no evidence for the theory of creationism because the evidence for the theory of evolution means that the creationism view must be void.
Moving onto the other statements made. 40% of the people thought that creationism should be taught in schools. Personally, I believe this is a waste of time. If you were a good follower of your faith, you’d teach it to your children anyway – that way everyone wins because those who don’t want anything to do with it don’t have to learn it. And if someone wanted to learn about it, there are thousands, maybe millions, of websites (not just American religious extreemists’ sites) that tell the story of creationism on the Internet. Don’t forget the good book, also.
What’s your view on the Evolution vs. Creationism debate? Should Creationism be mandatory in the curriculum?
