(2) Christmas: Merry Christmas

Christmas 2006 Blog ThemeIt’s the eve of Christmas Eve and I thought I’d just get a last word in before I vacate the computer for a few days. Sunny Man’s Blog silently celebrated its first birthday in November and I’m happy to say it’s been my most successful blog that I’ve ever held. 2006 has been a year when we’ve been increasingly aware of the threat of global warming - even Hollywood is sending us messages about it; yes Happy Feet and Ice Age. As always there’s been more violence and more death and although we live on the same bit of rock, our politicians are still rowing about the weapons that can destroy it.

For me the year has been a hectic one. This year marked the start of the rest of my life, or rather the final step towards total integration into the real world. I’ve begun to think about a lot of things this year: university, friends, life, god, religion, war, jobs. Sounds like a list of the most searched on Google. I don’t know why but it seems that this Christmas has been one of the best yet.

It’s funny, I’m an atheist and yet I celebrate Christmas. When I think about Christmas the first thing I think about isn’t how we’re celebrating Christ and his sacrifice but how the morale of Christmas is more important. I think that Christmas should be about seeing family and friends, giving gifts that are thoughtful, not just expensive ones. This year I’ve actually enjoyed spending my money but I’m sure it’ll hit me in the new year.

Where ever you are and who ever you’re with, have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
