I upgraded to Dapper and was pleasantly surprised to find that my system is much more responsive than with Breezy. Firefox seems especially snappier. I really like the new GNOME deskbar applet too.

Gentoo is also a very nice distro, but it's a lot more work to setup. If you have the time and interest, it can be very informative - I did it once inside a QEMU virtual machine on my Ubuntu machine. Ubuntu is much more of a "turn-key" Linux.

On the front of taking Linux into the home, Ubuntu and SUSE are probably the leaders. But for customization and down-right command line geekery (a good thing) then Gentoo is probably the winner on that account.

Server wasn't much good then. Hmm.

I ran Ubuntu as a server once, and it's not recommended at all. Ubuntu is too much of a hog to run as a server.

Anyway, Ubuntu is 90% hype and 10% goodness, it may look nice but it really isn't that good at all, Gentoo is 1000 times better.
